One Person At A Time!

Pr. Joshua Shin

Scripture Reading: Rom. 10:14

How, then, can they call on the one they have not

believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom

they have not heard? And how can they hear without

         someone preaching to them?

Happy Sabbath church!

What an awesome God we serve! He is our God who brought us from the corners of this globe! He is our God who called us out of darkness into His wonderful light.

When the sky was starless

In the void of the night

(Our God is an awesome God)

He spoke into the darkness

And created the light

(Our God is an awesome God)

Mercy and grace

He gave us at the cross

(Our God is an awesome God)

I hope that we have not

Too quickly forgotten that

Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God

He reigns from heaven above

With wisdom, power, and love

Our God is an awesome God

Our God is an awesome God

He reigns from heaven above

With wisdom, power, and love

Our God is an awesome God

God is an awesome God!

Mother Teresa

Does one person have power? O yes! Why not?

Our awesome God called Abram when he was 75 years old at Haran. When his mind was still full of doubt, our awesome God brought him outside and said, "Look at the sky and count the many stars--if you can." Then he promised with to him, "So shall your offspring be."

George Muller, “the Father of Orphans” embraced one orphan at a time and finally raised 10,024 orphans through his life.

Mother Teresa approached one person at a time and served 42,000 people through her life ministry. We call this “The Power of One!”

Did Jesus call His disciples one by one?

Yes, his calling was personal.

Did Jesus heal the sick one by one?

O yes, mostly he healed the sick one person at a time.

He even sensed a sick lady’s personal touch on his garment.

Did Jesus approach people one by one?

Yes, he visited the person with His personal Messianic mission.

When He visited the city of Jericho, Jesus personally called Zacchaeus and saved his household.

Yes, Christ’s ministry on earth was very personal. Why? Because His salvation is originally personal and very special to each one of us.

Mother Teresa said,

         I never look at the masses as my responsibility;

         I look at the individual.

I can only love one person at a time – just one, one, one.

         So you begin.

I began - I picked up one person.

Maybe if I didn't pick up that one person,

         I wouldn't have picked up forty-two thousand....

The same thing goes for you,

the same thing in your family,

the same thing in your church, and your community.

Just begin – one person at a time.

Just begin - one person at a time!  - Mother Teresa -

In 1858, there was a Sunday school teacher in Boston.

He visited and taught the Bible to his student who worked at the shoemaker.

He was drawn to Christ and became a Sunday school teacher.

His life was captured by the gospel and he became the greatest evangelist in 19th century.

The shoeshine boy was D. L. Moody and the teacher was Kimball.

After 21 years, Moody preached in London and F. Meyer attended the meeting and became Moody's evangelism partner.

One day Meyer visited America and preached in a meeting, and J. Chapman accepted Jesus.

F. Chapman opened evangelistic meetings in major cities of America and spread the gospel.

Chapman worked for YMCA for a while and he share the gospel to a major leaguer.

The major leaguer accepted Jesus through F. Chapman and became an evangelist.

He is no other than Billy Sunday who brought 1.5 million people to Christ within 10-week evangelistic meeting in 1917, in Boston.

Billy Sunday invited M. Hamm to Shallotte and held 3-week evangelism meeting but got discouraged a lot.

12-year old boy was the only converter from the meeting.

This boy has preached the good news of Jesus to 2.2 billion people. And his name was Billy Graham.

From D. L. Moody to Billy Graham, one person shared the love of God to one person at a time.

My Dissertation

This is my doctoral dissertation. In the 3rd chapter, page 53 to 67, I researched the “Team Ministry of great evangelists during the great awakening in the 19th and 20th centuries in America. And these great preachers showed up there in my study one by one.

But as I prepared my sermon, I got to realize that there was a personal linkage from Moody to Billy Graham, one person to the next by God’s awesome providence. I praise the Lord that He provided these precious evangelists for the lost!

Please… please… do not be critical on these evangelists but be thankful for the millions and several tens of millions people who accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior through these servants.

Dear church members,

It is very true that you and I are here today because of somebody. That somebody could be your father, mother, friend, evangelist Taj, Pr. Ivor Myers, or Pr. Doug Bachelor. Whosoever introduced Jesus to you, give your praise to the Lord for your personal salvation! Amen!

Invite Joel Mautray to the pulpit

Dear my friend, Joel! Please come up to the pulpit and share any inspiring story of saving a person through GLOW track.

Moody Evangelized Kimball’s Son

Quite some number of pastors and theology students personally approached me and expressed their special thanks to me; telling me that they made their minds to be pastors, the preachers for the Good News of Jesus as they listened to my sermons during their week of prayers or evangelistic meetings. Praise to the name of the Lord!

Then I clearly told them back, “Some time later you will feel and understand my joy and happiness as someone approaches you and tells you that you are the one who offered the gospel of Jesus to him. So be the next person!”

Please carefully listen to this marvelous story of Pr. Moody!

A number of years after his own conversion, Mr. Moody found a young man after the worship service in Boston. The young man came to Mr. Moody and introduced himself as a son of Mr. Kimball, Moody’s Sunday school teacher long long years ago. "What? O man, I'm so glad to meet you" said Pr. Moody. Then Moody looked at him and asked, "Are you a Christian?" The young man said, “Well, I’m sorry. I am not a Christian.” Then Moody grabbed him and inquired of his age. "I am 17," was the reply. "O my dear son, that was just my age when your father led me to the Lord," said Mr. Moody, "and now I want to repay him by leading his son to Christ."

Thank You

One of my favorite gospel songs is “Thank You” written and composed by Ray Boltz.

Thank You

Words and Music by Ray Boltz

I dreamed I went to heaven

And you were there with me

We walked upon the streets of gold

Beside the crystal sea

We heard the angels singing

Then someone called your name

You turned and saw this young man

And he was smiling as he came

And he said, Friend

You may not know me now

And then he said, But wait

You used to teach my Sunday School

When I was only eight

And every week you would say a prayer

Before the class would start

And one day when you said that prayer

I asked Jesus in my heart

Thank you for giving to the Lord

I am a life that was changed

Thank you for giving to the Lord

I am so glad you gave

Video Clip Starts from here

Then another man stood before you

And said remember the time

A missionary came to your church

And his pictures made you cry

You didn't have much money

But you gave it anyway

Jesus took the gift you gave

And that's why I am here today

One by one they came

Far as the eye could see

Each life somehow touched

By your generosity

Little things that you had done

Sacrifices made

Unnoticed on the earth

In heaven now proclaimed

And I know up in heaven

You're not supposed to cry

But I am almost sure

There were tears in your eyes

As Jesus took your hand

And you stood before the Lord

He said, My child look around you

Great is your reward

CHORUS (repeat)

I am so glad you gave

One day, Philip, a chosen deacon in the early church, captured by the Holy Spirit and brought to a man who had come to Jerusalem to worship God of Israel from Ethiopia and is now sitting on the chariot running toward back his country.

Philip ran up to the chariot and heard the man reading the book of Isaiah. "Do you understand what you are reading?" Philip asked.

"How can I, unless someone explains it to me?"

Do you believe that this Acts chapter 8 happens every day in this Bay Area? Are you captured by the Holy Spirit and ran up to the chariot and ask, “Do you understand what you are reading?”

O God, please open our spiritual eyes so that we can offer them the Gospel of Jesus!

I want you to read our Scripture Reading one more time with me as I conclude my sermon this morning!

Rom. 8:13-15

For, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be         saved." How, then, can they call on the one they have not

believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom

they have not heard? And how can they hear without         someone preaching to them? And how can they preach       unless they are sent? As it is written, "How beautiful are the   feet of those who bring good news!"
